Healthy Athletes
The mission of this project is to amend the training and competing abilities of each athlete in Special Olympics.
Immediate objectives:
- Increasing the training and competing abilities of each Special Olympics athlete;
- Ameliorating the access to health related services;
- Obtaining better medical care services;
- Training the special medical personnel;
- Collecting, analyzing and disseminating data;
The Healthy Athletes program has two active components in Romania amongst:
During these events, the Special Olympics athletes are having taken a series of tests and health evaluations in sessions organized and coordinated by volunteers, specialized medical personnel and students from specific universities. These evaluations are taking place in a pleasant environment, relaxing and amusing for the Special Olympics athletes.
The data gathered from these evaluations are being centralized in the biggest database of this sort, the Healthy Athletes Software System (HAS). The data about the athletes’ health are useful for planning, creating new programs, and helping, for better health policies and for researches. They will all contribute to alleviate the life quality of people with intellectual disabilities.
