SOR-UNICEF sports events
6 March, Cluj-Napoca- 50 SO athletes participated in a competition organized in Cluj-Napoca aiming to mark the end of the SOR-UNICEF project that started in June 2008 having as beneficiaries children with developmental disabilities from 4 NGO’s and state institutions.
This event involved 20 parents who are part of the Family Support Network Program, students from 8 main stream schools, over 50 volunteers from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education from Cluj who took part in the FUNfitness screenings and Young Athletes demonstrations and over 40 volunteers in the Special Smiles and Opening Eyes screenings.
The Young Athletes made us part of their enthusiasm and their joy of practicing sports through playing, and the children and teenagers from the placement centers impressed us by their determination to be part of the big Special Olympics team.
At this event, the SO athletes had the chance to overcome their limits and prove their abilities, while the volunteers helped them and contributed to the fulfillment of the goal of this project, which is to create inclusive communities for children with developmental disabilities.
