Family Support Network
This program is based on the idea that the families of our athletes are truly important to the development of the Special Olympics movement.
When the parents find out that their child is intellectually disabled, they question the way their child will grow up, what the child will do, how the child will integrate in the society, the way he/she will be looked at.
The Family Support Network is aiming to rejoin the Special Olympics athletes’ families. The families have the opportunity to interact with people who are living similar experiences. Moreover, by recognizing the importance of the family in the athletes’ life, the program wants to include the families into the trainings and the competitions. By getting involved as volunteers in organizing the competitions, the family members will get to be closer to the athletes, to show real support and a better understanding.
The program is addressed to the families of the active Special Olympics athletes, but also to families of potential Special Olympics athletes. The Special Olympics community is in permanent development by adding new members constantly.
Special Olympics doesn’t need only brave athletes, but also families that can join them!
