Management: The current national Special Olympics Romania team was created in November 2003 as part of the Special Olympics International movement. The Board of Directors includes Mr. Cristian Topescu, ProSports Director; Ms. Patricia Izabel Osmani, President of Special Olympics Romania, Mr. Pierre Joseph Hillerin, Director General of the National Institution of Sports Research; Mr. Mugur Ciumageanu, Psychologist and Mr. Cristian Savu, Communications Director of Ronald McDonald Foundation Romania.
Mission: to serve 15,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities by the end of 2007.
Vision: Special Olympics, through quality sports training and competition, improves the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and, in turn, the lives of everyone they touch.
Special Olympics empowers people with intellectual disabilities to realize their full potential and develop their skills through year-round sports training and competition.
As a result, Special Olympics athletes become fulfilled and productive members of their families and the communities in which they live.

More than 30 Special Olympics Events per year
Athletes in every county in the nation
Year round Olympic-type sports including athletics (track & field), football (soccer), table tennis, winter sports, gymnastics and basketball
Thousands of volunteers around the country
Hundreds of coaches around the country
The United States Government through USAID includes financial assistance for Special Olympics Romania with a three year program, which began in 2004, "Support for Changing Attitudes".
